servants. In order to do this effectually, he had commenced with the
chief priests and the elders, and imbued them with a religious frenzy.
This they had communicated to the rude and uncultivated mob, until
there was a corrupt harmony in the feelings of all, from the hypocritical
priests and elders down to the most debased. Christ, the precious Son
of God, was led forth and delivered to the people to be crucified.
