36 A Sketch of the Christian Experience and Views of Ellen G. White
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall
shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they
shall deceive the very elect.
Matthew 24:24
.
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in
him;
Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have
been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not
after Christ.
Colossians 2:6-8
.
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recom-
pence of reward.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of
God, ye might receive the promise.
For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will
not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul
shall have no pleasure in him.
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition, but of them
that believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 10:35-39
.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his
own works, as God did from his.
Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after
the same example of unbelief.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
[37]
and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:10-12
.
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good
work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ;
that, whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your
affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind, striving together
for the faith of the gospel;
And in nothing terrified by your adversaries; which is to them an
evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe
on him, but also to suffer for his sake.
Philippians 1:6, 27-29
