are fools, though they profess themselves to be wise. “Hear ye the
word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith
the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the
signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.... But the Lord
[172]
is the true God, He is the living God, and an everlasting King: at His
wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide
His indignation. Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not
made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth,
and from under these heavens. He hath made the earth by His power,
He hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out
the heavens by His discretion. When He uttereth His voice, there is
a multitude of waters in the heavens, and He causeth the vapors to
ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings with rain, and
bringeth forth the wind out of His treasures. Every man is brutish in
his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for
his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. They are
vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall
perish. The Portion of Jacob is not like them: for He is the former of
all things; and Israel is the rod of His inheritance: the Lord of hosts is
His name.”
“Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and
maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. For
he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good
cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt
land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord,
and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the
waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see
when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful
in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.... O
Lord, the Hope of Israel, all that forsake Thee shall be ashamed, and
they that depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they
have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters. Heal me, O
Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for Thou art
my praise.”
Let believers in the truth for this time, turn away from authors that
[173]
teach infidelity. Let not the works of skeptics appear on your library
shelves, where your children can have access to them. Let those who
have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to
