The Ministry of Health and Healing
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, “Here I am.”
If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
[142]
If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul;
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water,
Whose waters do not fail.’”
Isaiah 58:7-11.
Good deeds are twice a blessing, benefiting both the giver and
the receiver of the kindness. The consciousness of right-doing is
one of the best medicines for diseased bodies and minds. When
the mind is free and happy from a sense of duty well done and the
satisfaction of giving happiness to others, the cheering, uplifting
influence brings new life to the whole being.
If you are an invalid, instead of constantly wanting sympathy,
seek to impart it. Let the burden of your own weakness and sorrow
and pain be cast upon the compassionate Savior. Open your heart to
His love, and let it flow out to others. Remember that all have trials
hard to bear, temptations hard to resist, and you may do something
to lighten these burdens. Express gratitude for the blessings you
have; show appreciation for the attentions you receive. Keep the
heart full of the precious promises of God, that you may bring forth
from this treasure words that will be a comfort and strength to others.
