their trust completely in God, and He had proved to be their fortress
and deliverer. Now they could sing with understanding the inspired
hymn of David:
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

Through the faith of Judah’s ruler and of his armies “the fear of
God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that
the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel. Then the realm
of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.”
