Angels From the Captivity to John the Baptist
109
In John the Baptist, God raised up a messenger to prepare the way
of the Lord. He was to bear to the world an unflinching testimony,
reproving and denouncing sin. In announcing John’s mission and
work, the angel said: “He shall go before him [Christ] in the spirit and
power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the
disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared
for the Lord.”—
